Travel Information

Heritage Performance is the nation’s leading provider of music education travel programs. Heritage Performance is a part of WorldStrides, which is the largest provider of educational student travel in the United States. Heritage Performance works with your teachers to design interactive trips that enhance what you learn in school. Heritage Performance trips are not only educational; they are a lot of fun, too. On your trip, you’ll explore cool places and do exciting things, all while hanging out and performing with your friends and classmates!

The specific itinerary and activities will be chosen by your director or coach. Some examples of what happens on most trips can be found in the Destination section of our website.

The group will travel by either airplane or motorcoach, depending on how far your hometown is from your destination. A comfortable, air-conditioned motorcoach will be used to take the group to the various sites and activities in your destination city. In some cities, including Washington, D.C., New York City, and Williamsburg, the group will walk to many of the sites, when convenient.

All of our hotels are nationally recognized chain hotels such as Marriott properties, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Hilton, Sheraton, or comparable. Our hotels are “student friendly” and rated by the directors and coaches who lead trips every year.

The length of your flight or bus trip will depend on the distance from your hometown to your destination. Check with your director or coach for more information about your specific travel plans.

Due to the nature of group travel, we are unable to change any aspect of the flight, including departure and return flight times and destinations.

Students enjoy full American breakfasts either at their hotel or at a local restaurant. Groups eat fast food, food court, or cafeteria-style lunches are also provided dinners. In some cases, lunches may or may not be included in the program price. Check with your director or coach for more details about the meals that will be included in your travel program.

Heritage Performance can usually accommodate special diets (i.e. vegetarian, Kosher, allergies) if given advance notice. Please contact your director or coach before departure and make him or her aware of any special dietary requirements.

Most students get to choose their roommates at the discretion of their director or coach. Ultimate approval of all roommate selections rests with the director or coach. Students are placed four to a room with double beds in each room.

Students typically room with three other students (four students to a room), and most hotel rooms have two full or double beds that are shared by students of the same gender. Your director or coach can give you more information about room assignments and hotel accommodations.

Packing lists specific to your program can be found in our Destinations section. Comfortable clothes and walking shoes are a must. Since the weather can be unpredictable, be sure to bring rain gear and dress in layers in case the temperature changes throughout the day. Students are allowed to bring one suitcase and one carry-on bag. You may have to carry your own bags at times, so make sure that the weight is manageable for you!

We recommend $50.00 to purchase souvenirs for programs lasting three or more days. Students participating in shorter programs are advised to bring $5.00-$10.00 for each day. If your program does not include lunch, students should bring an additional $5.00-$10.00 to buy lunch each day. These recommendations may differ if you’re traveling internationally. Safety is our number one concern. Heritage Performance maintains offices across the United States, with staff that is available 24 hours a day to handle any emergency that may arise. We also give students a toll-free number that can be reached any time if anyone becomes lost or needs help of any kind.

Payment and Fundraising

The cost of each trip varies depending on your location, destination, itinerary, and other factors. Please check with your director or coach for detailed information about the costs associated with your trip.

Adult Travelers

Heritage Performance requires a safe ratio of adults to students on each trip. The director or coach will carefully assign the trip chaperones. Please contact your director or coach with any questions or concerns you may have.

The director or coach makes the decision about parents participating on your trip. There is an additional cost for adults depending on the number of program participants per room. Ask your director or coach for specific details and he or she can tell you more about the chaperones needed for your trip.

Discovery for Credit

Heritage Performance offers free school credit through our Discovery for Credit program. Students can register for this program by following these easy steps:

  • Students must log in to their student account on MyTrip and register for the appropriate course by clicking the blue Earn High School Credit banner and filling out the simple form.
  • Heritage Performance verifies the travel program and assigns the appropriate course and password.
  • The student will receive an automatic notification within 24 hours when the course is ready to begin.
  • All students must be enrolled on a Heritage Performance program in order to be eligible for the course; credit will not be awarded until after the on-trip experience occurs and the student successfully completes the final exam.

Every course varies, but on average, each elective course (0.5) credit should take a student 60+ hours to complete (20 pre-trip hours + 20 on-trip hours + 20 post-trip hours).

Each academic course (1.0) credit should take a student 120+ hours to complete (40 pre-trip hours + 40 on-trip hours + 40 post-trip hours).

Students may complete work at any time (pre-trip, on-trip, or post-trip) up to 6 months after your travel dates.

Once registered, an online timer lets you know how many months and days you have left to complete the course before time expires.

Since Heritage Performance is an accredited travel study school, other public high schools are required, by reciprocity, to accept Heritage Performance’s credit. Please ask your director or coach if you have additional questions about Discovery for Credit and how it will affect you locally.
